HISTORY OF THE SQUADRON

The first HQ for 1903 Squadron was at Oakfield School. Its first President was Admiral Sir Edward Evans. The Squadron was formed when 30 cadets were transferred from 386 (Beckenham) Squadron, and the number of cadets soon rose to over eighty.

The Squadron moved to a new HQ at 64 Croydon Road
on 29th September 1942 and, on 18th December 1945,
the Squadron moved further down the same road to
number 49. In 1963, the Squadron was adopted by
Penge Council. New huts were built in 1968.
In 1985, the Squadron moved to its present headquarters
in Kent House Road.  The opening ceremony was
performed by Air Marshal Sir Michael Armitage KCB CBE.
